Carers Information Day

The Carers Information Day will be held on Wednesday 16 November 2011 in the Arnhem Gallery, Fairfield Halls, Croydon CR9 1DG from 10 am – 4 pm. This annual event brings together representatives from all the different services in the borough that can support carers, covering issues such as benefits, transport, emotional support, alternative care, leisure and health advice. Attached is a list of organisations in attendance including Croydon Council, NHS Croydon and voluntary and community organisations. The event is organised by the Carers Information Service and funded by Croydon Council.

This is a unique event because where else in Croydon can you do the following in one day?

  • Get a free information pack for carers from the Whitgift Foundation's dedicated Carers' Information Service.
  • Try samples of Apetito's meals on wheels.
  • Talk to care managers from Croydon Council's specialist teams.
  • Try out equipment for daily living provided by the Aztec Centre.
  • Get information and advice about caring for someone with dementia, learning disability, diabetes, stroke, special educational needs, sensory impairment, autism, mental health problems, drug or alcohol problems, physical disability.
  • Talk to people who really know what it's like to be a parent carer, an older carer, a young carer or a disabled parent.
  • Get a full benefits check, advice about your pension and job seeking.
  • Meet health professionals who are part of the POP service.
  • Find out about transport schemes, housing and respite.
  • Talk to specialists about difficult issues such as domestic violence, child or adult safeguarding.
  • We even have the Digital Switchover Project on hand to offer advice to carers about the help they can get with the switchover from analogue to digital tv.
  • All this and a free cup of tea and a biscuit!

If someone in your life has a disability, illness, mental health problem or susbtance misuse problem, or, if you are you a professional who works with carers in the borough, this is the day for you.
