Information on mental health services in Croydon
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that the Mind in Croydon Furniture Service will have to close this Summer following confirmation by our commissioners that they are unable to fund the service after April 2013. There will be a scaled back service during the month of August and the last day tha twe will be able to supply furniture to clients is Thursday 29th August 2013.
I would like to assure everyone that the Trustees of Mind in Croydon have reached this very difficult decision only after a considerable period of time looking at the service, seeking to find alternative funding and trying different initiatives to try and save the service. Much was done by everyone concerned, including the staff and manager of the service, who showed great willingness and worked extremely hard to try and make things such as developing a light removal service viable. Unfortunately nothing that was tried resulted in sufficient new funding streams coming into being. The Trustees have for some time agreed to meet a shortfall in the service’s funding from the charity’s reserves but this is not tenable in the long term now that the service is not to receive any statutory funding from commissioners.
We are very proud of the Furniture Service which has been in existence since 1987 and has been a truly excellent aspect of the support that Mind in Croydon has provided to help people as they move into the community. The efficient, hard working, compassionate and thoroughly professional staff have cared for and helped many hundreds of people through some of the most difficult times of their lives and the service has been a key part of peoples’ recovery.
Commissioners have informed us that Emmaus might be able to help with the supply of furniture for clients although this is not a free service - charges are made: The nearest branch is: 9 Knight’s Hill, West Norwood SE27 0HS Phone: Homeless referrals: 0208 761 4340
If anyone has any questions about the closure of the service I can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
