A wonderful afternoon at Shirley Park Golf Club

Sun, smiles and a lovely big cheque – it’s a fundraisers dream – many thanks to all involved

Back in October 2020 we were delighted to be contacted by Ladies’ Captain, Victoria McFeat, from Shirley Park Golf Club in Addiscombe Road. Victoria very kindly nominated Mind in Croydon as her charity for the year 2020/2021. Despite the incredibly difficult time over multiple lockdowns due to the pandemic, Victoria and the Ladies made terrific efforts on behalf of Mind in Croydon. This resulted in my visiting the Ladies Drive In/Putt Out on Thursday 14th April to receive a magnificent cheque for £1743.06. Bernie Baggott the Club’s Social Liaison Officer was there to give me a warm welcome and we had the sunniest, most convivial afternoon looking over the gorgeous golf course and drinking beverages liberally topped up with ice (thank goodness as I needed to walk out of the club in a vaguely vertical manner!) Thanks are also due to Kim Lawlor, the new Hon. Secretary for the Ladies’ Section and Barbara Clearey, who helped to arrange this wonderful occasion.

Untied funding such as this generous donation is so important to our charity. It demonstrates to our clients and the rest of the world how much the community cares and we can use the funding to help kickstart new projects and to innovate in the services we provide to clients. One of our new projects is equine therapy which has been pioneered by Angela Christinis, Deputy Manager (Social Networking Service) and Carer Support Worker. This new project is going very well and much appreciated by clients and carers and this sort of innovation wouldn’t be possible without donations from our supporters.
