Mind in Croydon 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
Thank you to everyone who attended the Mind in Croydon 50th Anniversary Celebrations at the Selsdon Park Hotel on Saturday evening (10th March). Everyone enjoyed an excellent meal and heard talks about the charity ranging from its foundation in 1967 up to the current day. We were very pleased to see so many people who had contributed to and benefited from the charity over the years and we all enjoyed an excellent after dinner speech from our friend, three time world champion boxer, Duke McKenzie MBE. A charity auction raised much needed resources to help us continue our essential work.

Mayor of Croydon visits The Hub
We were very happy to welcome the Mayor of Croydon, Cllr. Toni Letts OBE to the Hub this Wednesday (17th January). Madam Mayor spent hours at the Hub, talking with members about their lives and how the Hub has been transformative in improving their health and well-being. She also got involved with the art group and sat in on a Minding Money session. Minding Money is a project funded by Comic Relief to help people to improve their financial literacy.
The Mayor stated:
“As always I am amazed at just how much work Mind in Croydon achieves for its members and I know that it is often seen by the membership as a life-line, where they can meet friends, share concerns with staff, have a meal, take part in activities and generally feel a sense of belonging.
Please pass my congratulations to all of your team. You all do an amazing job and clearly you are all respected and indeed loved by the membership”

CLOSED – Shop Assistant Needed
- £18,364 per annum whole time equivalent pro-rated downwards to reflect that this is a part-time post of 14 hours per week (Grade 2, Scale point 21 on the Mind salary scale).
NB: We are a London Living Wage employer and this rate will increase in April 2018 to £19,128 pa wte, Grade 2, Scale point 23.
- Hours to be worked – Mondays and Saturdays 9.45am to 5.15pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break ie. 7 hours per day so that the shop opens from 10am to 5pm each day. Post also needs to cover for annual/sickness leave of the Manager as and when requested.
Our shop is based at 289 Lower Addiscombe Road, Addiscombe, CR0 6RE. The purpose of our shop is to raise funds for Mind in Croydon, a busy local charity that has been running for 50 years. This very important role is to support the Manager’s efforts in maximising profits as well as keeping the shop clean, tidy and attractive to customers. Donations come in on a regular basis and you would also be required to deal with these. You would in addition be responsible on the days you are in, for the volunteers who help us to keep the shop productive as well calling up replacements to cover for times they cannot attend either on your days, or the Manager’s days. Customers can be challenging at times and the Shop Assistant will be solely in control on the days they work and will have to deal with any issues which might be raised. This is however a rewarding role. In a newly refurbished shop on a busy high street, we have become part of the community and as a local charity, all the funds you raise go to help our clients in Croydon. Overall strategy decisions, decisions on displays, methods of sorting and storing of goods etc will all be decided by the Manager and your role will be to carry out the strategy they have devised and support them in any way you can.
You will need to be extremely reliable and flexible in order to cover for any sickness/holiday absence of the Manager. Overtime will be payable for extra days worked.
Staff benefits include an auto-enrolment pension scheme, 28 days holiday per annum (rising to 33 after 5 years) pro-rated downwards to reflect that this is a part-time role, and the opportunity to work for a ‘family friendly’ organisation.
All posts may be subject to enhanced DBS checks. Application packs are available below and should be returned completed to The Human Resources Manager, Mind in Croydon Ltd, 26 Pampisford Road, Purley, Surrey CR8 2NE or admin@mindincroydon.org.uk – Closing date Wednesday 31 January at 5pm. Candidates are welcome to phone 020 8668 2210 to speak to the HR Manager if they require further information.
